Hermits and Hermit Themes - Lectures & Talks

The audio files here represented reflect several hermit traditions and themes from different authors.
Bill Porter is a well-known popularizer of Chinese hermits, author of travelogs to China and translations of Chinese poets as Red Pine.
Ajahn Brahm (Phra Visuddhisamvarathera, known as Ajahn Brahmavaṃso or Ajahn Brahmis (b. 1951) is an Australian Theravada monk and hermit.
Nyanamoli Thero is a Serbian-born Theravada monk-hermit living in Serbia at Hillside Hermitage, and has produced books, videos, and audios.(https://www.hillsidehermitage.org/). He follows the existentialist Buddhism of the tradition of Nanavira Thera.
At an early age, Jidda Krishnamurti (1895-1986) entered the tutelage of Charles Leadbeater and Annie Besant of the Theosophy Society headquartered in India. He was groomed to become the Society's World Teacher but at a older age rejected the designation to become an independent philosopher, lecturer, and thinker known for prolific talks and lectures world-wide offered in trenchant Socratic style.
Alan Watts (1915-1973) was a British-born philosopher and popularizer of Asian thought. He is known for his iconoclastic style and thought reflected in these talks delivered in the later 1960s.
UK-born Stephen Batchelor (b. 1953) became a Tibetan monk and scholar before becoming an independent writer, lecturer, and retreat leader.
Emma Orbach (b. 1955) grew up in a priveleged household, graduated from Oxford University in Chinese Studies, and lived in an intentional community with husband and children. She eventually parted and went to Wales to live self-sufficiently in an off-grid dwelling. Orbach is much followed by popular media. .
