The bear family, consisting of mother and three cubs,
appeared in May and returned a few times after the fire. They took advantage
of the bird feeders and water stations. Click image for larger view. May load slowly!

Their first appearance, from the woods behind the house, marching up
past the clothes line.

 |
Mother bear rests while eating, later drinks water. The
cubs had gone off on what Christopher Robin (from the Winnie the Pooh
books) called "an explore" -- in this case, climbing pine trees to great heights.

 |
Cubs were evidently still nursing, since they showed
little interest in food.
|
 |
| When the bears last visited, the feeder hanging from
the eave, visible at the top, attracted mother bear, who stands at the
window ready to reach up. She never did reach. Cubs watch obediently
from afar. |
